West Brom will be playing a blinder if they are able to win the race to sign Maccabi Tel Aviv forward Vidar Orn Kjartansson this summer after it was reported that Darren Moore is in hot pursuit of the Iceland international.

Mirror journalist David Anderson has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough and QPR are also interested in signing Kjartansson, 28, after an impressive season in Israel last time out.

Kjartansson scored 15 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for Tel Aviv, with four of them coming in the Israeli club’s Europa League campaign.

He just missed out on Iceland’s World Cup squad for Russia this summer, but he is clearly someone who has the ability to perform in the Championship given his goalscoring record in Israel’s top-flight and previous spells where he has been prolific at Malmo, Valerenga, Jiangsu Suning and UMF Selfoss.

Kjartansson is a bit of a journeyman, but what has proved is that he can score goals where he plays, whether it is in the heat of Israel, or the sheer cold of Iceland and Norway.

And for just £3.5million, a deal should be a no-brainer for West Brom, especially if it means that they can cause unpopular former Hawthorns boss Pulis to miss out on one of his targets.

Albion are likely to lose Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez this summer with the Venezuela international widely reported to be wanted at Newcastle while Burnley are said to have bid for Rodriguez.

Moore needs a new centre-forward, and he should definitely look to press on with this interest in Kjartansson, who could be bringing the famous ‘Thunder Clap’ chant to The Hawthorns very soon.
