West Brom have discussed the possibility of signing defenders Pontus Jansson from Leeds United and Danny Batth from bitter rivals Wolves, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Monday [03:19pm] that Huddersfield’s Michael Hefele is also among a trio of defensive targets that Darren Moore is in the hunt to sign, despite already completing the signing of Kyle Bartley from Swansea.

It is understood that the Baggies are braced for renewed bids by West Ham and Burnley for Craig Dawson, and the Black Country club is drawing up a list of potential replacements.

Good move for West Brom?

If West Brom were to sign one of these three defensive targets, it would perhaps please the fans a lot more if they were to snap up Leeds star Jansson.

Not many will be keen on the idea of poaching Wolves club captain Batth, while Hefele is perhaps a more underwhelming choice in comparison to Jansson, who represented Sweden at the World Cup and has already proved to be a formidable partner with Bartley during his loan spell at Elland Road in 2016/17.

Jansson’s form dipped last season, but he is still a very good defender and would be a perfect replacement for Dawson if the Baggies were to offload the former Rochdale defender.

Likely to happen?

West Brom may not only have to sign just one new centre-back this summer, but two.

Currently the club has just Dawson, Bartley and Ahmed Hegazi as centre-back options, and ideally manager Moore needs four.

It’s very likely that at least one of those defenders is among the three mentioned by the Daily Mail.
