Inter Milan have rejected an offer from Tottenham to sign attacker Joao Mario on loan, according to FC Inter 1908.

The Italian news outlet claims on their website that Spurs offered to cover 100 per cent of the 25-year-old’s wages in the loan, however Inter’s response has been emphatic, and they are only willing to offload the Portugal international if they can do it on a permanent basis.

Gazza Mercato has previously reported that the attacking midfielder, who spent half of last season on loan at West Ham, is valued at £22million by Inter Milan and that Everton and Bournemouth are also interested in signing him.

Good move for Tottenham?

Joao Mario was by no means great for West Ham last season, and Mauricio Pochettino should really be eyeing up better transfer targets than the unwanted Inter Milan player.

He made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers, scoring two goals and supplying one assist in the process, however he was only involved in four Premier League as his impact at the London Stadium fell well short of what was required.

If Tottenham want to replace Mousa Dembele this summer, they must do it with someone who is much better than Joao Mario.

Fans will be very disappointed if the club was to spent £22million on him.

Likely to happen?

With Inter already rejecting Spurs’ loan offer that will see the Premier League club cover all of his wages, it’s hard to see how this deal could come through.

There is no way that Daniel Levy would consider signing him on a permanent basis for over £20million when he is clearly not wanted at the San Siro and failed to stand out at West Ham.
