Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to sign Valencia enforcer Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer in order to add some “bite” to his midfield after his move to sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish blew up in his face, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper has claimed that Valencia have responded to an enquiry by Spurs, saying that they would demand the France international’s £70million release clause met in order to sell him.

Kondogbia has been in the form of his life at the Mestalla. He joined the La Liga club on loan last summer and has since made his deal permanent after scoring four goals and supplying four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs are widely praised for the strength that they have in their first team, but the one area that could really do with improving is in the centre of midfield.

Kondogbia would be a massive upgrade on Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier if Levy was able to pry him away from Valencia.

However while the 25-year-old is a very good player and proved it against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid last season, there is no way that he is worth £70million and Spurs should really look elsewhere if they want a player of his talents.

Likely to happen?

Levy is feeling the heat after missing out on Grealish and is under pressure to please the fans with at least one signing before the transfer window slams shut next week.

However it just seems impossible to see him spending £70million on a player who was worth much less than that several months ago before his move to Valencia was made permanent.

Spurs would never recoup that money by selling the 25-year-old on and it just seems like it would be a poor financial decision.
