Tottenham have confirmed that they have agreed the sale of Anton Walkes to Portsmouth.

Spurs announced via their official Twitter account on Wednesday that Walkes, 21, has left North London on a permanent basis to head to Fratton Park, where he spent the second half of last season on loan.

Portsmouth say on their official website that the defender has joined them on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

OPINION

Walkes was never going to get much of a chance to impress at Tottenham and he is at a good stage of his career to finally move on and make a name for himself. He did will on loan at Portsmouth last season, appearing 12 times across all competitions before an injury ended his campaign prematurely. The right-back may feel as though he has unfinished business on the south coast so he should be eager to go back and help Pompey make a bid to return to the Championship next term. As for Spurs, it definitely makes sense to cash in on Walkes. He was nowhere near the first team having only ever made one senior appearance for the North London club. Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters would have all been ahead of him in the pecking order, so it would have been pointless to keep hold of him after the end of the current transfer window.
