Swansea are attempting to solve their lack of attacking threat by signing Joel Asoro from Sunderland – as confirmed by the club’s Twitter – but they must do more to ensure they have the firepower they need to get them back into the Premier League.

Asoro shined for Sunderland last season, arguably being their stand-out player in an incredibly woeful season that saw them relegated to League One.

However, the Swans cannot rely on Asoro to deliver the goods if they want to see themselves back in the coveted top-flight.

According to Turkish Football, new Championship rivals Leeds are in the hunt for striker Mbaye Diagne from Super Lig club Kasimpasa – and Swansea hijacking the Whites in their reported bid to sign the 26-year-old frontman would be a masterstroke by boss Graham Potter.

Swansea fans are undoubtedly hoping that Asoro can improve on his goal tally from last term, having netted three times, but such pressure should not fall to a 19-year-old to help fire them back into the Premier League. The addition of Diagne, however, should ease their fears in that department.

The Senegalese hitman netted 12 goals in 17 appearances for the Turkish outfit last season, which is a statistic that Potter should be bringing to the Liberty Stadium in the form of the striker.

The South Wales-based club need to bring in more established forwards, and Diagne fits the bill perfectly – and the lure of potential Premier League football may just convince him to join forces.

The combination of Asoro and Diagne up front is a lethal prospect for the Swans, and Potter would be completing a masterstroke if he raids Leeds’ pursuit of the hitman.

Playing in an arguably more competitive league like the Championship would bring out the best in Diagne, and it would not be surprising if his goal count doubled as a result of joining.

Now Potter needs to stun his rivals and pursue their target in order to be considered one of the favourites for promotion.
