Southampton are not interested in Liverpool forward Danny Ings, according to the Daily Echo.

The newspaper’s development states that the Saints hold no interest in the 25-year-old at this stage, despite reports claiming otherwise.

As reported by The Sun previously, the Reds value Ings at £20million, with Mark Hughes’ side only prepared to pay around half of that to secure the strikers signature. However, this most recent report pours cold water on those claims.

St Mary’s has been a busy place in this summers transfer window, with the club bringing in Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong, Angus Gunn and Mohamed Elyounoussi so far this summer.

OPINION

This news is disappointing from the player’s point of view. This could have been the move to resurrect his career, after such a torrid time at Anfield with constant injury niggles and poor spells of form. The big-money dream move to Liverpool in 2015 was meant to be the big break in the former Burnley striker’s career, but over the last few seasons, it’s turned into a nightmare. He now needs a move away in order to get a change of scenery and fresh surroundings, then he might be able to show the kind of form that made The Reds pay £7.4million for him in July 2015 (TransferMarkt). This potential switch to St. Mary’s could have been the move to do just that, but after this latest report has ruled out any interest from the Saints, Ings will have to wait to find his next club. A move to a Championship club could be what the Englishman needs, he’d score a lot of goals and his confidence would get a massive boost.
