Southampton have made an offer for Liverpool striker Danny Ings, according to The Sun.

The outlet report that Saints boss Mark Hughes is hoping to tempt Ings to St. Mary’s this summer in order to boost his striking options.

The report reveals that Hughes’ side are willing to pay around £10million with add-ons to secure the Englishman’s signature but Liverpool currently value the 25-year-old at £20million.

The former Burnley striker, who started his career with the Saints youth set-up, has only made 24 appearances in three seasons for Liverpool due to constant injury problems.

Good signing for Southampton?

Yes, if he can stay clear of injuries.

Ings is a quality striker with good movement and strong finishing capabilities, which is just what Southampton need next season.

The 25-year-old could do with a change of scenery after a disastrous injury-plagued spell at Anfield.

Mark Hughes will be hoping all of his injury problems are behind him and he can finally start scoring regular goals again.

Likely to happen?

The two clubs seem to be some way apart in negotiations right now but that can all change very quickly, especially if the player is keen on the move.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking to get the Englishman off his wage bill and Southampton need a goalscoring striker, so surely they can come to some sort of compromise.

Then there’s the medical, which could prove a major sticking point should any long-term problems remain.

Expect movement on this deal in the next few days.
