Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been one of the busiest bosses in the summer transfer window this summer – but it is not always easy to judge who is going to be a success and who might flop before the season kicks off.

On paper, the Light Blues have improved massively on their squad in terms of experience and talent, but turning what seems to be a good team in theory into a competitive squad in reality is by no means a guarantee.

One man who fans will be intrigued to see in action is Ryan Kent, the 21-year-old winger joining on loan from the fringes of Liverpool’s first team.

As a young prospect, it may well be a case of sink or swim at Ibrox, as he continues to get to grips with the senior game after loan spells at the likes of Barnsley.

The expectations at the Gers will be far greater to what he experienced with the Tykes, but speaking out about the 5’7″ (source: Transfermarkt) speed machine, Gerrard revealed his excitement at what he can offer, telling the Daily Record: “He’s an attacking player who can play on either side, as well as a No.10 – he’s quick and aggressive in possession and an exciting player to watch.

“We hope he can help in terms of creativity in the final third. It will take him a little time to settle in but he’s in a good place after two or three weeks.”

As Gerrard states, Kent is being brought in to bolster an attacking line up which has lacked a cutting edge over the last half a year, including in the Europa League qualifiers.

Very much on the fringes at Anfield, the youngster can prove himself to be a game changer with Rangers, so long as he holds no fear and takes the game by the scruff of the neck, giving the side the X-factor they have been missing.

Gerrard is excited about Kent’s prospects – the fans and the squad should be too.
