Steven Gerrard has wasted no time in stamping his own mark on the Rangers squad following his arrival at Ibrox, bringing in a handful of new faces while not being afraid to ship out those who he deems surplus to requirements.

After a big shake up of the first team last summer under Pedro Caixinha, the Light Blues have seen another window of change, although this time the former Liverpool midfielder has chosen to bring in a mix of experienced stars and unproven quantities.

His time in the dugout has got off to the perfect start, having seen the Gers progress in the Europa League qualifiers without conceding a goal, while their pre-season matches have also been a success.

However, it does not look as though he is quite settled with the options at his disposal just yet, with the Daily Record claiming that Rangers are set to launch an imminent second bid of £300,000 for former Ibrox hero and current Hearts star Kyle Lafferty.

The target man, who made 134 appearances for the Light Blues during his first stint at the club, is said to have already been the subject of a £200,000 offer which was rejected – but considering his record, Gerrard is onto the perfect forward to try and sink Celtic this summer.

His 19 goals last season was a decent return, but it was his constant record of netting against the Hoops which stood out, having scored in all but one of the four clashes against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Catching and sinking their fierce rivals is Rangers’ number one goal, and with a lack of consistent firepower up front right now, Lafferty can be the man to do the job.

One win over Celtic would lift spirits sky high at Ibrox, and it could well mark the beginning of the end for the Bhoys’ reign over the rest of Scotland, and if Lafferty can be the man to score the winning goal, his name will go down in history.
