Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates has signed a new contract to keep him at the City Ground, as revealed on the club’s official website.

The club confirmed on their website that despite the fact that the 20-year-old is yet to make his senior squad debut for the Reds, he has penned a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2021.

The 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus has spent time on loan at both League Two outfit Notts County and League One club Scunthorpe, and impressed in both of his spells last season.

The youngster netted ten goals in all competitions last season, which has resulted him being handed a new deal at Nottingham Forest.

OPINION

Ryan Yates’ new contract at Forest is deserved based on his form while on loan last season, and at the club he may just get his big break. However, it remains to be seen whether boss Aitor Karanka will give him that opportunity in the upcoming campaign. This year is a very important year for his side as they make a serious push for promotion, and Karanka will need to decide whether he will risk an unproven player in the Championship at such a pivotal time. There is no doubting that Yates is a talented player with a lot of potential, and he will definitely get his chance to play first team football in a higher division sooner or later if he does not this season. His ten goals and eight assists while on loan is not the worst statistic for someone of his age, and he deserves the new contract that the club have given him.
