Reliable journalist Melissa Reddy has revealed that Mo Salah’s new five-year contract at Liverpool has ‘no release clause’ on her personal Twitter account.

The Anfield Wrap journalist, who is known to be a reputed reporter covering the Reds, revealed on Twitter that the 26-year-old’s new contract contains no release clause, after Liverpool revealed on their website via their official Twitter account that their star attacker had penned a new five-year deal with the club.

Salah was Liverpool’s top striker last season with an astonishing 44 goals in all competitions for the Reds – and the fact he has no release clause prevents the likes of Barcelona sniffing around him any time soon.

The centre-forward recently starred for Egypt in this summer’s World Cup, in which they crashed out at the group stage having failed to register a win. Salah failed to start the first group game against Uruguay due a shoulder injury, which he sustained during the Champions League Final in May.

OPINION

The news that Salah has signed a new five-year contract will be music to Liverpool’s ears right now. His stellar season for the Reds has resulted in clubs like Barcelona interested in his services, but the absence of  release clause in his contract makes it harder for teams to try and attempt to snap him up. Liverpool have been clever not to include a release clause in his contract, because no matter how high it was, many clubs would still be willing to pay an excessive fee in return for his goal tally. Next season, along with the arrival of Naby Keita, Liverpool are serious contenders for the Premier League title. This new contract shows Klopp’s reluctance to sell one of the world’s best strikers, and it is no wonder he wants to keep hold of him after his displays for the Champions League finalists. This new contract now means football fans can enjoy his goal exploits for the forseeable future.
