Celta Vigo full back Jonny is set to be confirmed as an Atletico Madrid player in a matter of hours before making an immediate move on loan to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to AS.

The Spanish publication claimed on their website on Sunday evening (22 July) that a deal for the 24-year-old flyer is on the brink of being announced after the two Spanish sides agreed a £6.2million (€7million) fee for his capture, but that he will be shipped to Molineux as Atletico have no space on their wage bill for him.

The 5’5″ (source: Transfermarkt) left sided defender, who can also put down his pace on the right flank, made 40 appearances for Celta Vigo last season.

Good move for Wolves?

The more, the merrier at Molineux, and Nuno Esperito Santo is wasting no time in getting his squad prepared for the trials and tribulations that the Premier League will throw at them next season.

They were a cut above the rest of the Championship and with the capture of players like Jonny, who is a talented defender, they should be at least on par with, if not leading, some of their top flight rivals in terms of quality.

The full back should offer a new dimension to what was a resolute but also exciting back line, especially from the wing backs, and even if he is not thrown straight into the starting XI, the Spaniard will offer his talents from the bench.

Likely to happen?

It seems this one is all done and dusted, and all that remains is for Atletico Madrid to confirm his capture and subsequent loan to the midlands.

Wolves fans have had to be patient as their club work on deals behind the scenes but it could be that Jonny’s capture kicks off a spree of spending from Nuno and his transfer team.
