Prince Oniangue departs Wolves for SM Caen

|

Midfielder Prince Oniangue had departed Wolves for Ligue 1 outfit SM Caen, as revealed on the club’s official website.

The club state on their website that the 29-year-old is leaving Wolves for France, sealing a move from the Molineux to SM Caen on a permanent basis after spending the second half of the season on loan at the club.

Wolves brought the Congo international to the club in the summer of 2016, but boss Nuno Espirito Santo has now ousted the 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) enforcer, having not played for the midlands side since October 2016 – not featuring once for the Championship-winning manager.

OPINION

The decision to let Oniangue leave the club on permanent basis does not come as a shock. He has not played since 2016 and even then he did not play a major role at the club, and it would not be a surprise that many Wolves’ fans would have forgotten about him by now. There was no point keeping a player on the books who had no chance of playing for the senior squad under Nuno, so recouping the money that they spent on him two years ago is a wise move. This cash would be better spent re-investing in another central midfielder who is worthy of a place playing in the Premier League, and who has the experience to thrive in the team. Oniangue has spent more time away from the club than he has spent being involved with the club, which only goes to show that is departure is good news for Wolves.
