Sporting CP have written to FIFA to ask that Wolves are handed a transfer ban and forced to pay £48.4million for signing Rui Patricio, according to Record.

The Portuguese outlet claims that the European club are demanding that the Midlands club are banned from registering new players for two transfer windows.

The report also reveals that the Portuguese club also want a £48.4million fee for Patricio and for the player himself to be banned from playing football for six months.

As translated by Sport Witness, Wolves have been working to find an agreement with the club before legal action was taken, but Sporting have already submitted their complaint to FIFA.

OPINION

Wow. This is a massive shock for Wolves. The signing of Rui Patricio looked like an excellent one. He’s a fabulous keeper with international pedigree and excellent ability but maybe they might live to regret the signing after all. If this legal action succeeds, it would be a massive blow for the Midlands club and their ambitious project over the next few seasons. Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching team have done excellent work to get the club promoted to the Premier League, but they could soon find themselves having to try and keep the club up with no transfers, which would be a tall order indeed. The reported fee is huge for a club of Wolves’ size to pay, meaning that they might not be able to strengthen in this transfer window before the ban would kick in. The club will hope that they can find an agreement very soon, otherwise, both club and player will be severely impacted.
