West Ham are set to pay a bargain fee of just £3.5million to secure the signing of Fabian Valbuena after it was revealed they had triggered his release clause, according to club insider ExWHUemployee.

The Twitter account, who have established themselves as a reliable source of inside information surrounding the Hammers, unveiled just how much the Irons were paying for the 26-year-old Paraguay international from Corinthians, and how the deal for his move to north London came about.

It is stated that the 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) defender was offered to Mario Husillos by his agent, and that after talks with manager Manuel Pellegrini, the green light was given for him to make the move to east London.

Opinion

In today’s transfer market, a fee of just £3.5million is an absolute bargain, and the Irons will likely be able to recoup that sort of fee even if he is a flop thanks to his experience in the Premier League. However, he is not being brought in as a money making exercise, and will be expected to head straight into the first team to help bolster the current options. Does he have what it takes to cut it at Premier League level? At his price tag there is not too much pressure on him to have a massive impact but there will still be question marks over making that step up from the Brazilian league to England’s top flight. It will definitely be one to watch for the rest of the division, for if he is a giant success then it could trigger a mass hunt for the next bargain talent in South America.
