West Ham have stepped up their efforts to try and wrap up the signing of former Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere, according to the Daily Mail.

The English newspaper reports on their website that Wilshere, who is currently a free agent after opting to leave Arsenal, has been in face-to-face talks with Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini and is now contemplating his next club.

The report also states that the England international is the subject of interest from Turkish club Fenerbahce, who are understood to have made a “huge offer” to him.

Good move for West Ham?

Absolutely.

This is a very encouraging update for the Hammers faithful, as Wilshere could be the perfect man to partner Mark Noble in the centre of the park.

Wilshere has shown over his years of playing that, although he does attract some injuries, he is a top quality midfielder, whose control over the ball is eye-watering.

The Irons could just be lacking that little bit of extra quality in the middle of the field, and Wilshere could be the man to push them up the Premier League table.

Likely to happen?

I think so.

It is likely that Wilshere will want to stay in England to be close to his family, and the Premier League is the optimal division upon which to rekindle his international career.

West Ham are keen on the move, and represent an opportunity to earn more first-team action, as was the case during Wilshere’s season at Bournemouth on loan.

Manuel Pellegrini is a winning coach, and that will attract the naturally competitive Wilshere, who has earned his fair share of silverware over the years at the Emirates.
