West Ham United’s reported pursuit of winger Bernard isn’t happening as it stands, according to a trusted Twitter source.

According to the reliable West Ham Twitter source ExWHUemployee, it looks unlikely that The Hammers will sign the Brazilian at the moment.

The 25-year-old, whose full name is Bernard Duarte, is a free agent after his contract at former club Shakhtar Donetsk expired this summer.

Sports journalist Alfredo Pedulla had claimed that Bernard was a target for West Ham, but this now looks unlikely according to this update.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have already confirmed the arrival of one Brazilian winger this summer, after sealing the signing of Lazio winger Felipe Anderson.

OPINION

Bernard would have been a fantastic signing for West Ham. He’s a very small winger who’s extremely quick, got great dribbling skills and is a good finisher. The 25-year-old has been performing at a consistently high standard at the highest level of the game, playing regularly in the Champions League for the Ukrainian side. The Brazilian scored three goals in eight appearances in last year’s European competition, scoring twice against Dutch side Feyenoord and once against Manchester City in a 2-1 win. His physical size may be a problem in the Premier League, as he’s just 5ft 5in tall (TransferMarkt) he may have found it difficult coming up against tall and physically imposing defenders. The ExWHUemployee Twitter account is normally a very reliable source for Hammers news, so it looks unlikely that Bernard will be joining West Ham this summer, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be joining another top club in English football.
