Jack Wilshere claims it was an easy decision to join West Ham after speaking to manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Wilshere was presented to the media for the first time since joining from Arsenal on a free transfer on Tuesday and has high hopes for the club’s future progress.

After 17 years at Arsenal, the 26-year-old was able to switch from North to East London with words of guidance from his new manager and claims that one of the biggest reasons was to play alongside club captain Mark Noble.

“It’s a special time for me,” Wilshere said, as quoted by football.london.

“Once I decided to leave Arsenal, when I spoke with Manuel it was an easy decision for me.

“We’ve added a few new players but we have got some players West Ham through and through like the captain.

“That’s one of the main reasons I came here, with a manager like Manuel who has managed top clubs at Europe. Once he was appointed, it was obvious the way the club was going.”

OPINION

Jack Wilshere has shown at Arsenal that, when fit, he is one of the best central midfielders in England. Wilshere was effective on loan at Bournemouth and was unfortunate his stint was cut short with a poor injury. Starting a new chapter with a different club will be ideal for his character and hopefully he can gain regular playing time if he can keep fit to a consistent standard. To sign Wilshere for free is a fantastic bit of business for West Ham and hopefully it can result in the Hammers targeting a top spot in next season’s Premier League. Wilshere turned down big money offers from abroad to remain in England which shows he is not motivated by cash and the decision could prove to be a vital one if he regains the terrific form that he had shown in the past to warrant a call-up to the England national squad.
