Everton and Newcastle United are plotting to go head-to-head over a summer transfer move for RB Leipzig striker Yussef Poulsen, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian football website reports that the Toffees and the Magpies, along with Premier League rivals West Ham, are all chasing the 24-year-old’s services, who has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit this summer.

The Danish forward, who stands at a colossal 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) has a contract at the club – who finished second in the German top-flight last season – that expires in 2021, and he netted four goals along with providing two assists.

He starred for Denmark in this summer’s World Cup in which he netted in the first game against Peru, before his country crashed out to Croatia in the last 16.

Good move for Everton?

No, not really. The attacking giant has certainly impressed for his country, but it remains to be seen whether he did the same for his club.

Scoring four goals and providing two assists is simply not enough for a striker to muster up in a season, and there is no guarantee that he will be able to improve upon that for the Toffees.

Everton need a genuine attacking threat who is able to guarantee them the goals, but unfortunately for them, Poulsen is not the player to do that.

Likely to happen?

No, not at the moment. Everton have only been reported to have considered a move for the attacker, and no negotiations or talks have taken place over a transfer.

Poulsen is most likely going to leave his club this summer, but it remains to be seen whether Everton would be his preferred destination – especially if West Ham and Newcastle are also interested parties.

A move for him may depend on where Poulsen would like to go, and all Everton can do is wait if they really want him.
