West Ham have launched a bid in the region of £20million to sign Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their official Twitter account that the Hammers have made the offer after the 23-year-old Portuguese international was knocked out of the World Cup with his country by Uruguay in the round of 16.

The eight cap star was in dazzling form for the Liga NOS side last season, chipping in with an impressive 16 goals from the middle of the park while ending the campaign as his club’s assist king, setting his team mates up for 20 strikes of their own.

Good move for West Ham?

The Portuguese maestro certainly impressed in his home league and it would be a coup to take him to east London this summer, with many likely to be keeping a lose eye on him after his displays.

He will not have the same time and space on the ball in England as he does in Portugal but if he can come close to replicating the form he showed, he should be a success.

His arrival would also help take off some of the creative burden left on the squad thanks to Manuel Lanzini’s injury bombshell.

Likely to happen?

Sporting CP are in a crisis with many of their stars looking to cancel their contracts after major security issues involving a fight with disgruntled fans.

Fernandes is one who looked destined for the exit, and if the Portuguese side can get a fee rather than losing him for free they will likely snap the Hammers’ hand off.
