Tottenham scout Wayne Robinson has confirmed that he is keen on snapping up a pair of Swedish youngsters as he embarks on a scouting mission at a training camp in the country.

The Spurs man revealed that he was eyeing a young striker from Stockholm and a defender from Gothenburg, as the north London side are reportedly joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Brighton, as well as clubs from the Netherlands and Germany, in running the rule over the young talents.

Robinson told Fotboll Direkt: “The club puts no pressure on me but trusts my judgment.

“I saw two to three players I liked today, it was a striker in Stockholm and a defender in Gothenburg.

“I can study the players on the training plan as well. If I want to bring a player to London, it must be a serious training player with his head in the right place.”

Tottenham are yet to make a senior signing during the current transfer window, with just Lucas Moura having arrived back in the January market.

Opinion

Tottenham fans have grown used to seeing young talents come through their academy system and make it in the first team, and perhaps in a couple of years there will be some Swedish names joining the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli lining up in the senior side. It is interesting to see that so many Premier League clubs are eyeing up Scandinavia as a potential hotbed of prospective stars, and while they are battling it out over first team captures, they could also face a fight to snap up the next bright starlet from Sweden. Of course, not everyone can make it at Spurs and there will be many disappointed faces along the way before the next prospect breaks through the ranks and into the first team. At least at Spurs the players themselves know they have a better chance of making it than somewhere like Chelsea, where all they seem to do is ship their homegrown players out on loan while they bolster their side with foreign recruitment.
