Tottenham Hotspur are yet to get going in the summer transfer window, but there is still time for Mauricio Pochettino to make a big statement in the market ahead of the 2018/19 season.
There will inevitably be several more big moves going through between now and the 9th of August, and if Spurs are involved in a couple of those then their summer can be salvaged.
One such deal that is most definitely on the cards for Tottenham is one for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who has reportedly reiterated his desire to leave the Champions League winners.
As reported by Marca, the Croatia international has informed new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui that he would like to leave this summer in pursuit of regular first-team football.
The meeting between the two is said to have taken place on Friday, and reportedly did not last long as Kovacic reiterated his desire to leave the club.
Tottenham must now take advantage of this final decision from Kovacic to launch a swoop for the 24-year-old, who would be a perfect addition to their midfield.
It has been widely speculated that Mousa Dembele will leave Tottenham this summer, and Kovacic would be the perfect replacement for the powerful Belgian.
Even if Dembele stays, Kovacic is a brilliant player who would turn this Tottenham midfield into one of the best in the league, and take Spurs’ depth in that area to another level.
It is said that Real would let the 24-year-old leave for a fee around £44million, and that is brilliant value for money in today’s market for such a good player.
Buying Kovacic would be the perfect way to kick off Spurs’ summer spending, and the opening left by this latest meeting must see the club launch their swoop to buy him in the coming days.
