Tottenham defender Jaden Brown has failed in his bid to win a deal with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, according to Football.London.

The 19-year-old left-sided speed machine, who has represented England and impressed for Tottenham’s Under-23s has been unable to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

He spent the past week undergoing a trial at Nijmegen and played in a friendly on Friday, however Football.London reports that the decision was taken not to take him on.

OPINION

This will be frustrating for Brown. He’s a talented left-back whose route into the Tottenham squad is littered with quality players. But he’s another youngster who is always on the front foot, and looking to make moves forward. Things are tough at Tottenham for him, though. Ben Davies, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters are all ahead of Brown and he’s in desperate need of a move this summer, or he risks his career stagnating. He must have been confident about sealing a move to NEC Nijmegen but obviously didn’t do enough to impress in the friendly he played in on Friday. He has surely enough in him to seal a deal this summer and reportedly caught the eye of a number of European clubs. However, time is running out for the 19-year-old and this is a big setback for him. Hopefully, he’ll land a move before the end of the summer window, as his opportunities at Tottenham look slim.
