Tottenham in the hunt for AC Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez

|

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact over potentially signing AC Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez this summer, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The football website reports that the 25-year-old flyer, who plays at left back, is the subject of interest from the North London club and that they have made an enquiry to the Italian side.

However, they will reportedly battle it out with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund for his capture, the Bundesliga side said to be keen to lure the defender back to Germany after his five-year spell with Wolfsburg.

The Switzerland international – who played four matches at this summer’s World Cup – arrived from Wolfsburg last year, and made 34 appearances for the Serie A outfit in an impressive first season for the club as a left-back.

Good move for Tottenham?

Yes, definitely. The Swiss left-back has had a breakthrough season in Italy’s top-flight, and he would be a welcome addition to the Tottenham team.

Current left-back Danny Rose’s form has decreased recently despite travelling with England to the World Cup in Russia, and he would be the perfect player to replace him as first-choice.

Despite only making it to the last 16 of the World Cup with his country, Rodriguez impressed for his team, demonstrating what an experienced player he is.

Likely to happen?

Yes, possibly. Despite the fact that Borussia Dortmund are competing for the Swiss’ signature, Spurs have reportedly ‘got the ball rolling’ in terms of a transfer for Rodriguez.

However, no formal negotiations have actually taken place, so it is an even playing field for both of the parties interested in him.

It may depend on whether Rodriguez wants to return to playing in Germany, or whether he wants to take the plunge and make the move to England.
