Inter Milan CEO Alessandro Antonello has confirmed that the club have made contact over a potential move for Tottenham Hotspur fan favourite Mousa Dembele this summer.

The Belgian enforcer is out of contract next summer and with no new deal looking likely on the horizon, Spurs could find themselves forced to sell up to avoid losing him for nothing.

Inter have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder, and club chief Antonello has revealed that there have been moves made to try and sign the experienced star, although asserts that it is not a certainty the Italian side will be able to seal a deal.

He told Calcio Mercato, who report that the Serie A giants face competition from China for his capture: “There are contacts in place, but nothing definite.”

Opinion

Dembele’s exit will be a bitter pill for the Spurs faithful to swallow, with many fans begging him on social media to stay in north London after his impressive displays at the World Cup with Belgium. However, all good things must come to an end, and the supporters should rest assured that Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy will get the best possible deal for the club, a sale which will only help strengthen the squad in other areas with added investment. Replacing Dembele could prove to be the biggest challenge, for he brings a quality that few others in the centre of the park can offer, and Pochettino will have to find either a new signing or a workaround to get over his exit. Still, with the likes of Harry Winks ready for more first team action, it is not like Spurs are desperately lacking in quality midfielders – just none who can offer the same thing Dembele can.
