While other clubs are wheeling and dealing in the summer transfer window, things have stayed especially quiet at Tottenham – and some might say they will be ruing their patience right now.

There were no new faces among the squad who jetted out to the United States of America for their pre-season tour, and the absences of those who had been on international duty at the World Cup meant there was space for some of the young talents coming through the system in north London to join the first team.

However, injuries have already started to play their part, with Harry Winks and Josh Onomah, who were both left behind to recover, now confirmed, as revealed by Mauricio Pochettino to Football.London, to have been joined by Victor Wanyama and Tashan Oakley-Boothe after suffering blows in their preparations, while Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko are also out with minor blows.

The issue is that all of those ruled out are central midfielders, and it leaves few options for the Argentine manager to pick from.

Thankfully, one man has stepped forward while in pre-season, and he is on course to be the club’s senior revelation this season.

At 21-years-old, Luke Amos might have been expected to have gone further in his development than he has, for he is currently without a senior competitive appearance to his name.

However, proving his worth against the likes of Roma and Barcelona this month, the 5’8″ (source: Transfermarkt) midfielder is doing his cause for first team game time no harm, and after seeing Harry Winks establish himself in the first team last season at the same age, there is no reason he cannot follow in his footsteps.

These injuries may well have been a blessing in disguise for Pochettino, and Amos can be his silver lining.
