Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is on the radar of Championship club Aston Villa, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper reports on their website that boss Steve Bruce is a long-term admirer of the 22-year-old, who spent the duration of last season on loan at rivals Birmingham City, and are plotting a temporary move of their own.

The Saints forward is said to be eager to make a mark on manager Mark Hughes and eventually make his way into the first team on the South Coast, but the 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) attacker is reportedly open to having a loan stint at another club in order to get regular playing time in first team.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Yes, definitely. Villa are currently experiencing financial problems, so a loan move for the youngster is the perfect solution to ease those worries.

The young starlet netted seven goals during his loan spell at Birmingham, so he is a more than suitable option to lead the line in Bruce’s attack.

Manager Bruce needs all of the reinforcements he can get this summer due to some players being sold, and Gallagher fits the bill perfectly at the moment.

Likely to happen?

Not at the moment. Gallagher has only been reported to be on Bruce’s radar, and no talks or enquires have been made by Villa as to the availability of him.

However, since he is open to a loan move to get regular football, then this is something Bruce should take full advantage of imminently, before he changes his mind.

Gallagher is one of Villa’s best bets to bolster their attack, and they must move quickly for him.
