Rangers do not have an interest in bringing back Southampton midfielder Steven Davis to the Ibrox but that an offer is on the table for Jake Cooper, according to club insiders Four Lads Had a Dream.

The blog and Twitter account, who have made a name for themselves as being a reputable source of information covering the Gers, reveal in a double transfer update that the rumours that Rangers are interested in signing the Saints enforcer are not true, but that work is underway on taking the Millwall defender to Ibrox.

The 33-year-old played 152 games for the Light Blues during his six-year stint at the club, winning three Scottish top-flight titles during his time there and became a firm favourite in Glasgow.

The Northern Irishman suffered a hamstring injury in the latter parts of last season, which saw him play just once under Southampton boss Mark Hughes.

OPINION

The fact that the rumours of Steven Davis joining Rangers have been put to bed is hardly going to stir any of the club’s supporters. Davis is 33-years-old, and is nearing the end of his playing career, so it will not be a huge loss to them that no contact has actually been made between their club and Southampton. He has already enjoyed six years playing at the Ibrox previously, so it undoubtedly still a firm fan favourite despite him eventually moving to the South Coast. He was an established midfielder in his time and still is, but he is not the player that will help boss Steven Gerrard stamp his mark on the team and signal a new era. Gerrard needs fresh, young talent, and fortunately for the supporters, a rumour of a move is now dead and buried. Exciting times now lay ahead for the Light Blues as they continue their busy transfer window activity.
