It is safe to say that Newcastle are currently lacking reinforcements on the right wing, with only Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie naturals in the position.

If boss Rafa Benitez wants to have any chance of improving on, or even maintaining, the club’s 10th place position last season, then he must bolster the right flank or risk lacking the attacking threat to put their rivals to the sword – which could be the difference between victory and defeat.

As such, the Spaniard must hijack Southampton’s pursuit to re-sign Torino winger Iago Falque – as reported by Tutto Sport –  in order to enhance his attacking options on the wing.

It comes to no surprise that the Saints are after the 28-year-old’s signature, especially as he has netted 14 goals and laid on a further 10 assists for the Serie A outfit in the 2017/2018 campaign.

The Spanish wing wizard, who also played for Tottenham in the Premier League, would fit in perfectly to United’s side, and will provide the goals and assists that they desperately need in order to play football that would excite their fans.

If they want to be considered a genuine attacking threat however, then Falque would provide the answer to that conundrum – and playing in the Premier League would only enhance his capabilities even further.

Newcastle have the lure of a possible top ten finish or higher in the top-flight next season, compared to Southampton, who were involved in a relegation dog-fight last term – and there is no guarantee that will not be repeated next season.

Ultimately, the decision will lay with Falque whether he will even want to return to England – but if he does, moving to the Toon would be the perfect choice both for himself and Newcastle.

Benitez now needs to brush aside the Saints and snap up Falque for themselves, in order to to bolster their right-wing resources.
