Newcastle United are set to announce the signing of young striker Yannick Toure after the Swiss starlet agreed contract terms with the club, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Magpies have got the 17-year-old to commit to a deal at St James’ Park after leaving the youth setup from Young Boys in Switzerland’s top flight, and that the north east outfit are looking at more under-23 signings after disappointing with the quality of the graduates from their youth system.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have only made three senior signings, with Martin Dubravka, Ki Sung Yeung and Kenedy putting pen to paper on permanent moves and a loan switch respectively.

Good move for Newcastle?

At 17-years-old, Toure is definitely one for the future, but that should not stop him breaking into the first team over the next couple of years if he is good enough.

He scored six goals in seven appearances for Young Boys’ under-21 side last season, and it seems as though the Magpies have got their hands on an exciting young talent.

It might not be the striker capture fans are so desperately keen to see at St James’ Park, but it is by no means a bad bit of business, especially after seeing so many young talents fall to the wayside and fail to make the grade on Tyneside.

Likely to happen?

This one seems a done deal, and it is just a case of Newcastle announcing it officially – although why it is taking so long will have many scratching their head.

There may be compensation to pay the Swiss side after he joined on what is technically a free transfer, and once negotiations over what the price is then perhaps fans will finally see him in the black and white stripes.
