Newcastle tell Adam Armstrong he can leave club for £3m

|

Newcastle United have told centre-forward Adam Armstrong that he can leave St James’ Park for a fee of £3 million, according to the Sun.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 21-year-old forward – who spent the duration of last season on loan at Championship clubs Bolton and Blackburn – has been handed a bitter blow by Toon boss Rafa Benitez, who told him that he does not feature in his plans for the club’s forseeable future.

United want £3 million for the young loan starlet – who netted 12 goals in all competitions last season – as he is being chased by a number of second tier clubs.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes, definitely. Despite being at the club since he was 17-years-old, Armstrong has not really proven himself at the highest level, which has been indicated by his various loan spells.

He did score 12 last season, but United are right to cash in on him to boost their transfer funds and bring in a more experienced forward at a higher level.

There was no point in keeping him on the books, so deciding to sell him is definitely a wise move by the club.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it is likely. However, it depends on whether this report saying that Armstrong should leave is true, as there is a possibility that it might not be.

Selling him for £3 million seems like a reasonable price for a young striker that has had a fairly successful season, and they will not be short of takers considering his form last term.

Championship clubs in particular would not mind paying that sort of money for a player who is capable of at least 12 goals a season.
