Tottenham Hotspur fans have delivered mainly positive reactions on Twitter following Christian Eriksen’s performance for Denmark in their World Cup match against Croatia last night (1 July).
The round of 16 clash with the Croatians ended 1-1 after extra time, with Denmark’s opponents eventually proving victorious after winning 3-2 in a penalty shootout.
The Tottenham midfielder expressed his verdict on the clash through his personal Twitter account, commenting on how “we can be very proud of what we have achieved.”
You win some and you lose some, but this is gonna hurt for a long time! It has been a great World Cup journey with this team! And we can be very proud of what we have achieved! ????????

This met with optimistic responses from the Spurs faithful, who were gutted to see one of their star players exit the World Cup at such an early stage, with comments including “very unlucky tonight” and “you’ll bounce back and be even stronger.”

You've been a credit Christian. You've carried the national team all the way to the #WorldCup. The play-off game at #Dublin proved that. Personally, I think you all ran out of steam. Looking forward to seeing you back at @SpursOfficial, where you're loved. #Denmark #COYS ????????

OPINION
Eriksen’s performance for his country last night has undoubtedly been admired by the Spurs supporters. Denmark were unlucky to go out on penalties to Croatia the way they did, but fans are completely behind one of their prize assets and are proud of what he has achieved this summer. They are obviously hoping he can replicate his form for Denmark for Spurs in the Premier League next season, and his 14 goals from last term indicate he may just do that. Spurs are in a good position to challenge for the title next season, and Eriksen’s international displays are sure to help them on their way.
