Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has said alarm bells must be going off in the Man United boardroom, after manager Jose Mourinho’s recent outbursts, and that the next fortnight will show whether they back Mourinho or not.

Through United’s pre-season tour, Mourinho has made it clear he’s not happy with the level of support he’s getting in the transfer market.

And, writing in his column in the Mail, Redknapp has said that the United board have a simple choice.

“The choice United face is simple,” Redknapp wrote. “Buy Harry Maguire, buy another player and let Jose be happy. If they don’t he will continue to make his feelings known.

“But how much longer will the board tolerate his outbursts?”

OPINION

Harry Maguire was one of the players who made his name at the World Cup finals. Since his heroics in the England defence, and his goal against Sweden, the 25-year-old has been hyped as one of the next big centre-backs in the English game. Leicester have reportedly slapped a £60million price tag on his head amid potential Man United interest. Maguire would probably love a big-money move but he’ll never come out and say that. And we can’t see United sanctioning a move for him when they balked at paying a similar amount for Toby Alderweireld. Like Redknapp said though, the situation at United is perilous. Mourinho has made it clear that he’s not happy and there’s only a week-and-a-half left until the Premier League season starts. That’s about as bad a preparation as you can get for a new season. Worse, Mourinho has been installed as second favourite by the bookies to get sacked. Has his time at United come to an end?
