Manchester United will offer midfielder Jesse Lingard a new contract after his impressive World Cup performances, according to The Sun.

The outlet claim that United will reward the Englishman with a new £150,000-a-week contract, despite only signing a £75,000-a-week four-year deal in April last year.

The report reveals that the 25-year-old is highly-rated by manager Jose Mourinho, and both he and the club realise that his stock will rise after his performances for the national team on the world stage, so they’re keen to secure his future.

The attacking midfielder was in brilliant form for The Red Devils last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 48 appearances in all competitions, as he secured his place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup first-team (TransferMarkt).

OPINION

Jesse Lingard has been one of the best performing English players over the last 12 months and is fast becoming one of England’s most important players. His club form last season was outstanding and he’s proven to everyone that he can perform consistently well at the highest level. Despite being a late developer and only getting his chance in the Manchester United first-team in the 2015/16, he’s taken his time and took his chance, only becoming a regular fixture in the team last season. The 25-year-old has got his experience from going on-loan to numerous clubs in the EFL, learning his trade, getting first-team action and developing into a top player. Jose Mourinho is correct to rate Lingard so highly and the club are doing the right thing by securing his future, before the European giants potentially come calling.
