Manchester City are leading the pursuit to sign Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, according to Sport Mediaset.

The Italian sports website reports that the Citizens are prepared to pay £89million in order to land the central enforcer from Serie A, with Juventus thought to be tempted by the interest of at least three clubs, including Pep Guardiola’s City.

The eight figure offer that City are prepared to pay is said to be enough to convince the club to sell the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, providing that he wants to depart the club himself after pondering on whether he wants to stay and play with new arrival Ronaldo.

Good move for Manchester City?

Yes, possibly. However, City are not short of midfielders amongst their ranks and it will remain to be seen where Pjanic would fit in amongst the array of talent.

There is the concerns that he may not be guaranteed regular football under Guardiola, as he would have to demote some players down the pecking order so that he can be accommodated.

There is no doubt that Pjanic is a talented player, but it is questionable whether City really need him in the team.

Likely to happen?

If the report is true, then they seem to be in pole position to land the Bosnian if they are willing to pay that amount in order to bring him to the Etihad.

Chelsea had previously expressed interest in landing him, and they may prove to be a stumbling block if they decide to bid for him as well.

A bidding war may commence if Manchester City are set on signing him, which may drag this transfer saga out even longer.
