Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Premier League rivals Leicester City, as revealed via the club’s official Twitter account.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder is the first signing of the summer from boss Pep Guardiola, as the Premier League champions look to make a bid for a consecutive title next season.

As confirmed on the title winners’ official website, Mahrez will take the number 26 shirt, and has committed to a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The Algerian winger netted 13 goals for the Foxes in the 2017/2018 campaign, as well as laying on a further 13 assists for his team mates.

The announcement of Riyad Mahrez’s arrival at the Etihad will surely be the news that City supporters were hoping for. They were waiting patiently for the club to make the first signing, and what a signing that is in the form of Mahrez. He has undoubtedly been Leicester’s stand out player in recent seasons, contributing to their shock Premier League title win a few seasons back. He will fit in perfectly with the attacking talent City already have with the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, and the combination going forward will be lethal following his arrival. His goal tally will only rise while playing for the Citizens, especially with the abundance of attacking flair that will provide the service he needs. Mahrez is only going to get better and better, and the upcoming campaign is sure to be exciting one for the supporters and football fans as a whole.
