Liverpool centre-forward Liam Millar is set to join Sunderland on a permanent transfer, according to Roker Report.

The Black Cats site, which is a reliable source of information about the club, claim the 18-year-old is in line to link up with  Elliott Dickman’s Under-23s squad ahead of next season.

Roker Report state the one-time Canada international will follow Jordan Hunter in making the journey this summer from Anfield to Sunderland.

Good move for Sunderland?

Yes. Millar has pedigree and great promise. Capped by Canada at full international level, he is highly rated by club and country but has found his path in the Liverpool youth-team ranks blocked by the abundance of quality attackers, who include the likes of Harry Wilson, Rhian Brewster and Bobby Duncan. Nevertheless, former Fulham player Millar has a fine record for Liverpool Under-18s of 14 goals and eight assists from 36 appearances. Versatile enough to play in traditional spearhead role as well as out wide on the left, he is mobile, direct and has an eye for goal. Once he settles in at Sunderland – assuming the deal goes through – the teenager can make a big impact at a club which will start next season in England’s third tier following consecutive relegations.

Likely to happen?

Roker Report have a good track record when it comes to reporting about Sunderland and have broken a number of stories in recent times. Given how heavily they have gone with the Millar transfer, it suggests that it is well sourced and that a deal is in the offing.
