Liverpool have surprisingly resumed talks to sign Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir after a £53million move collapsed earlier in the window, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper reports on their website that negotiations regarding the mega-money transfer of the France international have been re-opened, and the two parties are hoping to finalise an agreement to make the 24-year-old a Liverpool player once he returns from Russia.

Progressed talks between Liverpool and Lyon reportedly fell through after the Frenchman failed his medical at Anfield at the last hour, and Fekir had almost signed a deal at the club, an interview with the club’s in house media channel conducted – but the deal now looks to be back on in what is a shock u-turn of events.

OPINION

Jurgen Klopp is sure to be pleased that talks have resumed for a transfer for Nabil Fekir, who was set to become a Liverpool player before the deal collapsed. The signing of Fekir will show a real sign of intent from Liverpool, and will show their Premier League rivals that they are serious about challenging for the title next season. This news will be a blow to Manchester United, who were in the running to sign the attacking midfielder after his move to Liverpool collapsed – and Fekir may prove to be the difference between the two sides come the end of the season if he replicates his 23-goal tally. Fekir is the final piece in Liverpool’s reinvigorated midfield after the new additions of Naby Keita and Fabinho, and they may prove to be the key to Liverpool’s title challenge. Playing alongside the trio of Mo Salah, Firmino and Sane, Liverpool will be a force to be reckoned with.
