Everton manager Marco Silva has revealed the ambitious behind-the-scenes plans of the board ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese boss, who succeeded Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park, has been working closely with the club’s new director of football Marcel Brands to try and improve on the Toffees’ eighth-placed finish last season.

Speaking of these plans, Silva revealed his excitement for his new role, and that his own personal focus was entirely on what was happening right now, rather than the future.

He told Sky Sports: “First of all I am excited because it is the next challenge.

“It is the present and for me always in football if the most important is what we are doing now in the present. It is a big challenge, big club, I am really excited to be here and proud as well for me and my staff to be working here.

The former Watford manager also confirmed that that those in the boardroom, including owner Farhad Moshiri, want to achieve something “great” on Merseyside and that they would be working together to achieve the club’s ambitions, with an aim to improve their league position year-on-year.

“We need to put the club in the right position, to get our club better and better this is my expectation and the expectation of the owner as well,” he told Sky Sports.

“He wants to achieve something great at the club and it is my obligation to achieve that. It is important to support and we will support our chairman. We must support our board as well to all work together to get our club better.”

OPINION

Marco Silva has a big job on his hands for next season. The expectation at Goodison Park has risen exponentially since his arrival, after the disappointing managerial spells of Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce, the Toffees fans are expecting a massive improvement in league table position in the upcoming campaign. The style of play will definitely help his cause, if the team isn’t doing particularly well to start with but the team is playing good football, the fans will give him time to get it right like they did with Roberto Martinez. Under the Spaniard, they managed a fifth-place Premier League finish, so fans will be hoping for something similar under their new manager. There is only so far that a pragmatic style of football can get you, which is why Allardyce had a short managerial shelf-life. If Silva can get it right at Everton, he could be the manager for years to come and could build a long-term dynasty at the club, but he must get the style right first.
