Everton boss Marco Silva is plotting a move to reunite with former Sporting Lisbon and current Manchester United defender Marcus Rojo in a £30million swoop this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Toffees boss, who was the Argentine defender’s manager in Portugal before he made the move to Old Trafford, wants to work with the 28-year-old once again, with Rojo having been cast out of Jose Mourinho’s plans with the Red Devils.

It is stated that the £110,000-a-week (source: Spotrac) centre back has not joined the squad out in the USA and instead went back to Manchester to hold crunch discussions over his future, having been told he is the most likely in his role to be shipped out this summer.

Good move for Everton?

Rojo is a proven Premier League performer and with Everton’s back line one of the oldest in the league, some fresh blood would not go amiss.

At 28 the Argentinian international still has plenty of time to prove his worth in England’s top flight, and under a manager that he knows and trusts him in Marco Silva, he could establish himself as a rock in the Toffees’ defence.

Silva obviously knows his strengths and weaknesses and feels as though he has something to add to his current options, and having been shunned from the Manchester United squad, it seems an ideal move for the player as well.

Likely to happen?

On paper this seems like the sort of move that could well happen, but at the same time the funds might still be beyond what Everton are able or willing to pay.

His £110,000-a-week wages is some serious money to splash out, and it could be that Rojo is forced to take a pay cut if he is going to reunite with Silva at Goodison Park.
