Everton fans have delivered mainly positive reactions on Twitter following Jordan Pickford’s goalkeeping heroics for England in the penalty shootout against Colombia last night (3 July).
England conceded a last minute equaliser from Yerry Mina to level the score to 1-1, forcing the match into extra time.
No goals in the added 30 minutes resulted in a penalty shootout against the South American side, with Pickford saving one of the shots before Eric Dier slotted home the winning penalty.
YES!! Top drawer from @JPickford1! He is the penalty shootout hero – and @England are through to the #WorldCup quarter-finals.

This was met with delighted responses from Everton fans, who may now face a fight on their hands to fend off potential interest for their shot-stopper after his heroics. These comments included “what a keeper and is only going to get better” and “you deserved that.”

Once again the media very quiet. Pulls off a world class save and hardly a mention.

OPINION
Pickford’s performance for England last night has certainly gone down rather well with the Everton faithful. However, after his heroics yesterday, fans should not be surprised if clubs come sniffing around his services in this transfer window. Pickford picked up a fair bit of criticism after the 1-0 loss to Belgium in their last group game, but the fans are right in saying that the media have gone quiet after this match – but they will be hoping he maintains this fantastic form and replicates it at Everton next season. With little competition for the shirt at Goodison Park, he is in line for another impressive season.
