Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is set for contract talks with the club amidst reported interest from Chelsea, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster reports that the 24-year-old will be offered improved terms at Goodison Park upon his return from a post-World Cup holiday this week.

This news comes after Chelsea were linked with the England No 1 last week, with the Blues keen to bring Pickford in if goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois departs for Real Madrid.

The Toffees have moved quickly to secure the future of a player they signed for £30million from Sunderland last summer, the Wearsider going on to become Everton’s Player of the Season in his first year on Merseyside.

OPINION

Everton fans will be over the moon about this news, having been put through the mire last week when Chelsea’s interest in Pickford became known. The 24-year-old was one of few highlights in what was a fairly drab season for Everton last year, and he took his form to new heights with England this summer as the Three Lions made it to the semi finals of the World Cup for the first time since 1990. His sparkling displays last term were enough on their own to warrant an improved contract, but Chelsea’s interest in the player will have made the club’s decision to offer him fresh terms very easy indeed. Pickford has emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers in world football, and the Toffees know his best days lie ahead of him. They are doing everything they can to ensure his long term future is at Goodison Park, something that every Everton fan will be hoping for.
