Chelsea will loan out Danny Drinkwater this summer and Everton are among the clubs interested in signing him, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s transfer expert, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Sunday morning.

He also claimed the deal would be expensive, and that Huddersfield and Palace would be interested too.

Drinkwater is reportedly on £90,000-a-week at Chelsea. The 28-year-old joined the West London club from Leicester last summer in a £34million deal.

Good move for Everton?

Drinkwater would bring much-needed stability to the Everton midfield. He was pivotal in Leicester’s unlikely Premier League win and could slot straight into Marco Silva’s side. Silva’s in desperate need of reinforcements after a less-than-impressive pre-season, that continued on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Rennes. A loan move would suit but wages could be an issue. He’s on £90k-a-week at Chelsea and Nixon says it will be an expensive deal, which suggests there could even be a loan fee on top. A loan move would be far less risky than a permanent deal for anyone at this late stage in the window.

Likely to happen?

His move to Chelsea seemed strange at the time and it hasn’t worked out for him. He only started five Premier League games for Chelsea last season and needs to move now for the sake of his career. He’s not going to get in the first team under new manager Sarri and a loan move now seems likely, with three Premier League teams interested. Of the three, Everton and Palace seem the most likely. Palace would enable Drinkwater to stay in London but Everton would surely be the most attractive club to join. They’re in desperate need of a lift and Drinkwater could provide that in the nick of time.
