Chelsea to sign Daniele Rugani for £35m

|

Chelsea are set to sign defender Daniele Rugani from Juventus for a fee of around £35 million, according to reliable journalist Paolo Bargiggia.

The Italian journalist, who is known as a commentator for Premium Sport Mediaset, delivered the news that the 23-year-old is set to join Chelsea and that a deal is almost complete on his personal Twitter account, stating that “Juventus has surrendered Daniele Rugani to Chelsea.”

The 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant made his debut for the Italy national team in 2016 at the age of 21, and could partner current Blues defender Andreas Christensen in the centre of defence upon his proposed arrival in West London.

OPINION

Chelsea have made a fantastic signing in the shape of Daniele Rugani, if the news is true of course, who has already established himself as a rock solid centre-back for Serie A outfit Juventus. The Blues were in dire need of reinforcements to their back four, who were looking depleted after leaking in easily-avoidable goals last season. Gary Cahill is getting older and as a result has got slower, meaning he is not able to keep up with the lightning fast pace some attacking players possess. Rugani is the ideal solution to their defensive problems, and is likely to be first choice alongside Christensen, demoting England international Cahill to the bench for even longer. Making his Italy debut at the age of 21 shows just how far he has progressed as a player, and he is only going to get better and better – as Chelsea will find out in the foreseeable future. His height means he will tower over most players in the box, as well as providing a genuine attacking threat from set-pieces.
