Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is set to join Derby County on loan imminently, according to a trusted Twitter source.

Reliable Telegraph journalist John Percy revealed on his Twitter account that Mount is set to join County on loan in the next 24 hours.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder was in fantastic form on-loan at Vitesse Arnhem last season, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in 40 appearances for the Dutch side.

The English wonderkid looks to be set for another loan spell, this time to Pride Park, where he will link up with Derby manager and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.

OPINION

Mason Mount is one of the outstanding young English midfield talents and he proved it last season in a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem. For a 19-year-old player with little senior football experience, to reach that level of goals and assists in a major European league is exceptional. This kid really is a phenomenal talent. It would have been nice to see Chelsea give the youngster a path into the first-team next season, but the next best thing they could have done is loan him out to Derby County with Frank Lampard. That ensures that the youngster gets the game time he needs, with a manager they can trust and who can also develop his skills on the training pitch with quality coaching. Mount has been likened to Lampard in his playing style, so he should be able to learn an awful lot from the new Rams manager in his time there.
