Chelsea are in talks to swoop for striker Gonzalo Huguain from Juventus, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on their website that newly appointed boss Maurizio Sarri has targeted the 30-year-old goal machine, who has 247 career strikes under his belt, as one of his top priorities as part of his new regime at Stamford Bridge.

Huguain – who earns a reported £240,000-a-week playing in Turin – is said to be valued at £53 million by the Serie A giants, which could be considerably cut back if the Blues offer their own forward, Alvaro Morata, as part of the deal to bring the Argentine goal machine to West London.

However, the Italian champions are claimed to prefer the money up front, having just splashed out £100 million on Cristiano Ronaldo.

Good move for Chelsea?

Yes, definitely. Huguain has an impressive eye for goal after netting 23 goals for Juventus in the 2017/2018 season, and that is the prolific striker that Chelsea have been crying out since the departure of Diego Costa.

Even though he is 30, he can still produce the type of form that is worthy of being at a top-level club like the Blues.

Chelsea’s lack of firepower last season arguably caused them to fall out of the top-four last season, so the potential addition of the Argentina international would surely help them compete for honours once again.

Likely to happen?

Yes, possibly. However, Chelsea are keen to offer Morata as part of the deal in order to reduce the cost, but Juventus are not wanting to play ball after splashing the cash recently.

This does not mean a deal could not happen, but it may mean that they will have to stump up the £53 million that Juventus have valued him at and keep Morata for the time being.

Chelsea are more than capable of paying that sort of money, so time will tell as to what the plan of action will be.
