Chelsea are currently concentrating their efforts on working on a deal to sign Manchester United winger Anthony Martial, according to the Times.

The newspaper reports on their website that the Blues’ deal for the left-sided flyer are ongoing as they seek to replace Eden Hazard, who is requesting a move away from West London this summer in order to join Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old is also said to be being chased by Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich, but both clubs are not willing to meet the Red Devils’ £89.3 million valuation of their French playmaker, who has reportedly rejected the offer of an improved contract at Old Trafford.

Good move for Chelsea?

Yes, it could possibly be a good move. Hazard is one of their star assets however, and he may prove tricky to replace should he depart Chelsea.

Martial did not have a remarkable season last time out, but the Blues are obviously holding out that his form will improve for the upcoming campaign, if he decides to join them.

He has the quality and potential to be an outstanding player, and a move away from his current club to Chelsea may just help him to unleash that.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it is more than likely. The fact that Martial has rejected the offer of an improved offer at United is an extremely positive outcome for Chelsea, who now do not have a contract to deal with.

However, Bayern Munich are also interested in his services, who may prove to be a major obstacle in their pursuit of Martial, as they can offer him Champions League football next season.

Chelsea will be hoping that they can complete a deal for him before Bayern attempt a hijack.
