Real Madrid have decided against making a move for Chelsea star Eden Hazard, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The publication reports that new Real boss Julen Lopetegui will instead put his faith in Isco, with the Spaniard set for a key role next season.

Reports this week indicated that the Blues wanted a world record fee of £200million for their Belgian sensation, with that price tag surely part of Madrid’s reluctance to deal.

AS’s report states that the European champions are big admirers of Hazard, but feel that they are well covered in attacking areas.

OPINION

This, surely, is the news that Chelsea fans have been waiting weeks to hear. Cristiano Ronaldo’s sale to Juventus, coupled with a tremendous World Cup from Hazard, had led many Blues supporters to fear their key man would be off to the Bernabeu this summer. However, it now appears that won’t be the case. Clearly Madrid have decided the financial outlay required to snare the Belgian wasn’t worth it considering all the attacking talent they are already blessed with – even without Ronaldo. Their choice of Isco as a key figure isn’t surprising either. Lopetegui relied on the 26-year-old heavily during his time as Spain manager, and the former Malaga man has gone from strength to strength in Madrid over the last couple of years. AS’s report states that Marco Asensio’s development was another reason why they backed out of the Hazard chase. No matter how they came to their decision, though, this is massive news for Chelsea fans ahead of the new season.
