Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, according to Marca.

The Spanish outlet reports that the Gunners are in advanced talks to sign the 29-year-old this summer, who represented his country Switzerland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

It is claimed that the transfer is moving quickly and is likely to happen before FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen leaves the Spanish club, who is linked with an imminent transfer in the report.

The Swiss international made 33 appearances for the German club last season, conceding 44 goals and claiming eight clean sheets, and won four titles with former club FC Basel, as well as two Swiss cups.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Very. After already bringing in another goalkeeper in Bernd Leno this summer, the arrival of Sommer would mean Arsenal have two top-quality goalkeepers to compete with each other this season.

He is an outstanding shot-stopper who is also very good technically, vastly experienced in both club and international football, and can also pass the ball out with his feet comfortably.

Surely this means Petr Cech and David Ospina are on the way out this summer?

It seems like the goalkeeping horror shows of past Gunners seasons are long gone.

Likely to happen?

Yes. If the above report is correct, it sounds as though the signing is pretty imminent, considering the report states that the transfer will likely go through before Cillessen leaves Barcelona, which is reported to be very soon also.

However, at this stage in his career and at 29-years-old, why would Sommer want to swap a guaranteed first-team place to be a potential back-up keeper?

Not sure about that.
